Globular cluster
Since it was first observed, this globular star cluster has gone on to become one of the best-studied objects in the night sky, and is considered by many amateur astronomers to be one of the finest visible clusters. Globular cluster is located in the northern constellation Canes Venatici. Amateur astronomers consider it one of the finest and most beautiful specimens of its kind in the northern sky. The M3 is 33,900 light-years away from Earth, and at around 8 billion years old, it is a young orb. It is estimated to contain at least 500,000 stars, at least 274 of which are variable stars.
Apparent magnitude
With an apparent magnitude of +6.2 – M3 is not visible to the naked eye except from extremely dark places. Unlike out-of-focus stars, with 10×50 binoculars you can spot the M3 as a hazy spot. However, you should buy a telescope and enjoy the beautiful view. With an 8-inch telescope, you see a large and bright diffuse ball of speckled light with a noticeably brighter nucleus.
